5 reasons, why August – September is the best time to visit Kerala

Music of monsoon, Great Value, Snake Boat Races, Onam, and more.. August and September are special months that carry all the goodness of the peak season too.  Here’s why:

1. Romance of the rains:

Green becomes greener. Heavy downpours quickly followed by clear skies and pleasant weather, makes Kerala Monsoon like none other.  Fresh rain drops dripping like nectar from lustrous leaves, the sound of thunder, the aroma of damp earth..stimulates all your senses, and you enjoy everything, a little more.

2. Great Value:

For all technical purposes, August – September fall under the summer / off season bracket of pricing for hotels, resorts and everything ‘touristy’. Can you believe it? It means, you can opt for a luxury experience at the price of standard facilities and take back special memories.

3. Exclusivity:

October marks the beginning of a busy tourist season in Kerala and the world starts to descend in this petite state along the Arabian Sea. With not much difference in temperatures (Kerala has pleasant and equable climate round the year), September gives you more attention with fewer tourists around, everywhere and hence more exclusivity!

4. Thrilling Boat Races:

Vallam Kalli or the boat game is a major attraction as it takes place in various boat forms and parts of the state, one of the most popular being the Snake Boat race, in August end, early September. The technical methods of creating the Snake Boats are said to be more than 650 years old!

5. Onam:

Pookalam or floral patterns, Sadya or the traditional veritable feast, Chuttu Vilakku or the earthen lamps illuminating the temples, music and dance. End of August or Early September sees the celebration of a festival in the typical Malayali traditions like none other.

Whoever said you can’t have the cake and eat it too, hadn’t visited Kerala at this time of the year. You still can, before everyone else gets there!
