Gagar

 A gem amidst the clouds

Tucked away from the madding crowd, at an altitude of 7,000 feet, is a tiny gem called Gagar. Situated near Ramgarh, this quaint hamlet takes you back in time to an era you would have only experienced in books or cinema. Gagar is your window to the Kumaon Himalayas, offering a 180-degree view of Himalayan peaks such as Nanda Devi and Panchachuli, among others.

Dotted with tiny cottages, Gagar has little traffic, making it ideal for a peaceful getaway. Adding to the hideaways’ charm is its typical hill station climes; it’s no wonder, then, that Gagar has been home and inspiration to many literary greats – including Rabindranath Tagore, whose Gitanjali was supposedly penned sitting atop what is now famous as Tagore Top, where lie the ruins of the home that once housed the great writer. If you’re waiting to write a masterpiece of your own, this is the perfect place for some soul searching!
