Coorg

India’s Coffee Cup

Often dubbed as the Coffee Cup of India, the pristine countryside-like Coorg is reminiscent of the beauty one experiences in coffee table books and picture postcards. Resplendent with lush carpets of coffee and spice plantations — as well as gushing, cascading waterfalls — and surrounded by curtains of whispering evergreen forests, Coorg remains untouched and unspoiled by city life. Coorg is equally famous for its natural honey, cocoa and rubber; and among the spices, pepper, cardamom and vanilla crop are much sought-after.

Besides spices, coffee and divine natural beauty, what make this picturesque hill town truly unique are its people, culture and cuisine — The Coorgis (Kodavas) are so distinct, that you’ll have a hard time remembering you’re in Karnataka!  With inherently martial roots, they are known to date as a brave warrior community. Another reason this place is different is that pork constitutes a major part of Coorgi culinary tradition, with the classic pandi curry topping the list of what you simply must try.
