A forgotten gem…
It’s straight out of a fairytale. The sixteenth-century Castle Bijaipur in Bijaipur Village, situated 40 km from Chittorgarh, is nestled amidst the deep forests on the Vindhyanchal Hills. Complete with enchanting royal residences, a well-preserved legacy, courtyard-style gardens and a restaurant that serves exquisite Rajasthani delicacies, the castle exudes old-world romance and charm. The village of Bijaipur, too, is not far from sights such as Pangarh Fort, the Lotus Lake and Bassi. Historically, Bijaipur served as a critical base during the Rajput-Mughal battle. Today, the silent retreat-like village is one of Rajasthan’s best-kept secrets, and offers activities such as jeep and horse safaris and bird watching.
