Destination

Jorhat

The heart of Tea kingdom

Referred to as the cultural capital of Assam, the memories, though, you take from Jorhat is that of the sprawling tea gardens that spread themselves for as long as your eyes can reach.

Staying in the ancestral heritage house of the first family of Tea plantations of Assam, the Barooahs, one is transported into another world, that once was. If gently contemplative landscapes, lush green rice fields, water meadows and river fish traps are not enough, Jorhat is also a gateway to the ever shifting, Majuli island, the world’s largest river island alive, known also for its unique culture of the aboriginal tribes, as well as to the historical city of Sivasagar, the capital of the original rulers of Assam, the Ahom dynasty. A must visit on any North East itinerary!
