Temple Town

As you enter Madurai, you’re almost instantly enveloped in the sharply crafted temples and monuments of the city, timeless testaments of the Dravidian style. Among its many temple treasures is the renowned Meenakshi Amman Temple, which stands tall as an awe-inspiring sight. If you can get past the crowds that throng this religious attraction, don’t miss it’s the music pillars, which when tapped, sound out different musical notes! And while it is predominantly swathed in architecturally amazing temples, palaces and churches, there’s so much more to this old city, including jasmine plantations and vibrant, colourful markets, including one where apparently up to 16 varieties of banana are sold!
