Destination

Punakha

Palace of Bliss

Majestic stupas, spectacular views of the Himalayas and stunning Bhutanese architecture — welcome to Punakha. Once the capital of Bhutan, it’s now the winter capital of the monks. As you travel along the scenic route to Punakha, on a clear day you might just be able to view the spectacular Himalayan mountain range. Once at Punakha, the highlight is what many consider Bhutan’s most architecturally striking fortress-palace complex, the Punakha Dzong.  Situated at the confluence of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers, the dzong houses many fascinating and sacred artifacts and temples. Ensure to stroll over to the Suspension Bridge nearby. It’s the longest bridge in Bhutan.
